DAKINE TEAM UPDATE FROM THE BILLABONG PIPELINE MASTERS
Posted in Events/Contests, News, Surf, Team with tags Surf, Team on December 11, 2009 by DAKINEIt’s been a record week of surf in Hawaii! We’re hanging on for round three of the Billabong Pipeline Masters.
Yesterday started off with the completion of round one and going half way into the second. Perfect 6-8′ Pipe and Backdoor! Though there were no perfect 10’s posted, at least a dozen near perfect rides were notched in the books. Andy Irons had an amazing first round dominating local boy Marcus Hickman. Holding one of the highest heat score totals of the day, it seemed like just another walk in the park for Andy. Bruce Irons also shined in round one and round two. (The Irons brothers were completely water logged from charging the day before, at the Quiksilver Eddie Aikau. It was ON and it was cranking! Both brothers were riding the mountains all the way into the shore break and pulling into gigantic shore pounding barrels.)
Another dark horse who seems to be unstoppable, is John John Florence. The kid surfs Pipe and Backdoor like it’s your typical beach break. He had one of the highest ranking heats of the day. “I think I have an advantage because I know all the little peaks, boils and all the different cracks in the reef.”, said Florence.
Round two wrapped today after half a day, and it looks like another swell is headed in for round three tomorrow. The waves were a little smaller today, but perfect none the less. Andy Irons scored two 9’s in his heat, really just charging it!
Heat 1: Liam McNamara (HAW) 7.94 def. Chris Davidson (AUS) 6.83
Heat 2: Roy Powers (HAW) 10.26 def. Gabe Kling (USA) 10.06
Heat 3: Phillip MacDonald (AUS) 10.40 def. Greg Emslie (ZAF) 3.83
Heat 4: Kekoa Bacalso (HAW) 12.00 def. Mason Ho (HAW) 10.67
Heat 5: Bruce Irons (HAW) 15.67 def. Tim Reyes (USA) 13.93
Heat 6: Shane Dorian (HAW) 11.17 def. Tiago Pires (PRT) 8.33
Heat 7: Michael Picon (FRA) 19.76 def. Josh Kerr (AUS) 16.73
Heat 8: Torrey Meister (HAW) 14.83 def. Kai Otton (AUS) 14.0
Heat 9: Dean Morrison (AUS) 16.93 def. Sion Milosky (HAW) 8.37

EDDIE WOULD GO
Posted in Events/Contests, News, Surf, Team with tags Surf on December 8, 2009 by DAKINEThis picture says it all. Two heavy hitters, Shane Dorian and Makua Rothman. Gearing up to surf The Eddie Aikau, both trusting in DAKINE to keep their boards attached to their feet. This upcoming swell is looking to be the biggest in over 30 years. Beach front homes are gearing for potential flooding and heavy erosion. Shelters have been set up along the north shore. We are talking exceptionally large waves.
